The DC live-action universe has had a fascinating tenure in theaters, and continues to surprise the generations of fans out there. While Warner Bros.' shared universe has hit its stride with blockbusters like Aquaman and Shazam!, there's been some interesting developments when it comes to the handling of the Caped Crusader.

Ben Affleck has officially retired from playing Bruce Wayne/ Batman, and Twilight alum Robert Pattinson recently landed the role for Matt Reeves' The Batman. It's a casting decision that has resulted in the full gamut of emotions from DC fans, but it appears that the casting process was actually quite quick-- especially for such an iconic superhero role.

According to THR, who has an insider on production for The Batman, Robert Pattinson's audition and eventual landing of the role was much quicker than usual. This makes a great deal of sense, as there's a ton of pressure in casting superheroes for the big screen. Marvel Studios famously saw tons of actors for Spider-Man, before landing on Tom Holland as the iconic web crawler.

Since Batman is perhaps the most popular DC character in history, one would expect Warner Bros. and The Batman's Matt Reeves to take their time finding the right actor to don the cape and cowl. But rumors about Robert Pattinson were followed quickly with an official confirmation by the director, so it seems like a pretty brief process from the outside. And this new report confirms that Gotham's Knight was found quickly.

Conversation about who might replace Ben Affleck as Batman in the DCEU began before he even dropped out of the role. After he backed away from both directing and starring in The Batman, it was clear that Matt Reeves was going to need to find new talent to make the developing blockbuster a reality. And Robert Pattinson reportedly wasn't the only actor considered for the role.

After the first rumors about Robert Pattinson's possible tenure as Batman hit the internet, it was also reported that X-Men actor Nicholas Hoult was Pattinson's main competition. They both reportedly tested for the role, with the Twilight alum winning out, and officially replacing Ben Affleck as the next live-action Bruce Wayne.

This breakneck pace might be in an attempt to get The Batman out in theaters at its current release date. The movie has been developing for quite some time, and it's set to arrive in theaters on June 25th, 2021. Matt Reeves will need to start assembling the cast and crew in order to make this a reality, as the script has been the main focus of the film's long gestation period.

With Robert Pattinson officially attached as Batman, it should be interesting to see what other actors join him. Quite a few performers have been campaigning to play some of Batman's rogues, including Josh Gad and Vanessa Hudgens. We'll just have to see if the movie ends up being the villain-heavy ensemble project that was rumored months sago.

The Batman will arrive in theaters on June 25th, 2021. The next installment in the DCEU is Birds of Prey on February 7th 2020. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

New Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Image Reveals How Massive The Land Is

Disney told us from the very beginning that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge was going to be the single largest land expansion in the history of Disneyland when it was finally here. However, Disney Parks are already so massive that it's difficult to get an idea of exactly what that means. Just how big is Galaxy's Edge?

While the land doesn't open to the general public (or more specifically, those with reservations) for a little over a week, Galaxy's Edge has been giving sneak peeks to some including press members recently, and it recently held a cast member event in the space. From that event has come one of the few official photos of the new land that has been released, that includes 1400 people surrounding the Millennium Falcon. Check it out.

While there's certainly a lot of people in this photo, the fact is that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is so much more than what you see in the picture, that it's going to clearly be able to hold an insane number of people due to its size. The other major E-ticket attraction, Rise of the Resistance, though it won't be open on May 31 with the rest of the land, isn't even visible in this picture. That means there's a lot of space left empty that thousands more people will be able to inhabit.

The picture, posted on Instagram by Disneyland President Josh D'Amaro, also shows just how big the Millennium Falcon actually is. For many, simply standing in the presence of a full sized replica of the iconic ship will be the ultimate Star Wars experience.

One can certainly imagine an aerial photo of Galaxy's Edge looking this packed most of the time if Disneyland actually lets enough people into the new land. Of course, it's not clear at this point exactly how many people will actually be getting to Galaxy's Edge when it opens.

Getting access to Galaxy's Edge for the first three weeks will require a reservation. All of the reservations made available to the general public in that time are already gone. The only way to be able to visit the planet of Batuu now is to book a reservation at a Disneyland Resort hotel, for which rooms are still available even now.

After the first three weeks, access to Galaxy's Edge will be handled through a digital queue system where guests will be notified on their smartphone when they can visit the land. One assumes this process will last until the crowds die down to a level where people will be able to enter and exit at their leisure, although, considering how popular the new land is going to be, it could be quite some time before that happens.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens at Disneyland May 31 and an identical land will open at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World August 29. A second phase including the second E-ticket attraction, Rise of the Resistance will open at an as yet undisclosed time in both parks later this year.

Zack Snyder Is Definitely Credited As An Executive Producer on Aquaman

DC's live-action film franchise has already had a fascinating run, full of peaks and valleys. It all started with the vision of Zack Snyder, as Man of Steel jumpstarted the shared universe, followed up by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Snyder had to depart Justice League following a family tragedy, and now the director/producer has seemingly stepped away from the shared universe altogether. But it turns out he does have an upcoming DC movie role, as Snyder is actually being credited as a producer on James Wan's upcoming underwater adventure Aquaman.

This latest news comes to us from Aquaman's official website, which only recently listed its credits and rating-- which is a PG-13 in case you're wondering. Zack Snyder is listed as an executive producer on the project, and should be included in future posters and marketing materials. He's credited alongside his wife Deborah Snyder, former DC head Geoff Johns, and Jon Berg and Walter Hamada. It's unclear how much of a say Snyder had in Aquaman, but it's clear that James Wan's upcoming flick was made with some in-house DC love.

While Zack Snyder is going to be decidedly less involved in the DC Universe moving forward, it's interesting that he's still going to be an EP on Aquaman. Snyder's involvement isn't something that has followed the upcoming blockbuster ahead of its release, but it shows that director James Wan is indeed playing within the greater shared universe. While the movie isn't going to contain crossovers and other members of the Justice League, the Conjuring director still collaborated with DC figureheads on Arthur Curry's first live-action movie.

Zack Snyder's involvement in Aquaman does make a great deal of sense, considering the title character was given his official entrance into the DCEU with Justice League. After rejecting Bruce Wayne's offer to join The League, Arthur Curry briefly returns home to Atlanta. So Snyder was tasked with crafting that setting, which will be greatly expanded when Aquaman arrives in December. Working alongside Snyder allowed Wan to build on what was already established, while also making exciting changes to Atlanta.

One of the ways James Wan changed Atlanta was by allowing its denizens to speak freely underwater. When Jason Momoa's Aquaman and Amber Heard's Mera had their Justice League short scene, the latter cleared the room of water so they could speak. Wan ditched this concept, allowing his characters to speak underwater, and not overthinking the physics and biology of it all. James Wan has always been a visionary director, and his first foray into the superhero genre should be no different. And hopefully that includes some elements of horror as well.
