The Type Of Personality Captain Marvel Will Bring To The MCU, According To Brie Larson
Thor is noble. Hulk is angry. Spider-Man and Iron Man are sarcastic. Doctor Strange is... well, he's complicated. As Marvel fans look to 2019, they might wonder what role Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) will play in the ever-expanding tapestry of heroism that is being crafted at Marvel Studios. So when CinemaBlend visited the Los Angeles set of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's origin story, Captain Marvel, we asked Larson about her hero's personality, and learned:
I think she has an ego, but in a healthy way. She doesn't have an unrealistic expectation of herself. She just owns that she's really good and really skilled, which feels good to play. She also has an incredible sense of humor. Makes fun of herself. Makes fun of other people. Has no issue if someone makes fun of her. So, I will say that this character is probably the most dynamic character that I've ever played. There's the most range. As of now... it's been the most range I've ever played a character from. I've had to go through every emotion possible with her. And a lot of this movie, although it has great comedy in it, there's also real depth to it, and emotion. ... For me it's, like, that's what I want. I want to see complicated female characters. I want to see myself, which is, not a simple person. I'm surprised, myself, constantly by what's happening and what's coming up. So hopefully that's what comes out on screen.
Captain Marvel, the character, brings a lot of new elements to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She's arguably the most powerful hero to be introduced in the MCU. Rumor has it she's stronger than Hulk, though how she'll fare against The Mad Titan himself, Thanos, won't be answered until Avengers 4 rolls around.
But Brie Larson also has the joy of playing a fully formed character when Captain Marvel opens. You might not know this yet, but Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's movie will begin with Carol Danvers (Larson) already having her powers, then filling in her backstory over time, instead of taking the traditional rise-to-power arc experienced by Captain America, Doctor Strange and Iron Man.
Many of us are curious how Carol will fit in with all of the aggressive personalities that already exist in the MCU. Some of her attitude was on display in the latest trailer for the superhero epic, which recently dropped. Revisit it here.
We're most excited by the news that Brie Larson believes this will be a wide range of emotions on display for her to play in Captain Marvel. With one foot on our planet and another in the stars, Carol Danvers can explore corners of the MCU we haven't seen before, and that's thrilling.
